Turtle watching on Ada beach

With the harmattan gone until next year, the goods and the greats of Accra and Tema have returned to Ada for the week-ends.  This was the occasion of a late night barbecue on Saturday night, after which we ended up on the beach looking for leatherback turtles laying their eggs.  And guess what, we got lucky! After a mere 5-minute drive on the beach we spotted a large turtle, surrounded by a couple of American scientists doubling as guardian angels - since in Africa, meat is meat...
We sat around and watched the spectacle for an hour before the beast (1.35m according to the scientist who measured it) filled her hole in the sand and started rummaging around the place to cover her track.  Having dug and refilled a couple of false nests, the turtle headed back into the sea, and us back to our beds, which was well overdue as you can guess from the pictures.
Jer and I went fishing the next day, but my rather delicate stomach meant I was rapidly sea-sick and had to beg to return to the calmer waters of the Volta river.  Still, we managed to see some dolphins.
Other than this, our days in Accra are spent preparing the rest of our trip, and that includes buying a car.  To escape the heat, we go to posh hotels to relax next to the pool, where Elias can hone his swimming skills. We even took the floaties off for the first time yesterday.
Pictures are here.
