More farewells..

One of the great things about traveling is the variety of people you meet.  People whom we would never have met had we stayed in UK/France.  The downside inevitably is that when you travel, encounters are often followed by farewells - a recurring theme on these pages. So we left the cosy hospitality offered by Violette and her parents to face a long string of hotels of very mixed quality; a moment which was particularly difficult for Elias, who spent the rest of the day asking confused questions, as he was scrambling for something to hold onto when his world was being thrown apart, yet again.
When we woke up on Tuesday, there was still lots to do on the car: fit the bull-bar, service the air cond’ and fit the pre-filter.  Luc’s efficient team had the whole thing wrapped up by lunchtime... whilst we were sipping a chilled beer nearby - Africa eh? So we were on the road by 14:30, heading West towards Tema and then North to the Lake Volta, then Ho, and then 20 kms of ‘piste’ to reach the border.  There, civil servants of unequal skills and  various degrees of drunkenness processed our papers just in time for us to reach Kpalime as the night was falling.  And for this we owe a lot to Elias !  Yes, in Africa everyone  loves children and it seems even a corrupt official would not want to keep him waiting for hours.  We truly hope to witness the same behaviours during the rest of the trip. In any case, Elias is the best ice-breaker we have found to talk to the locals.  Bless him !

So, the journey North had started, we are now in French speaking Africa.
