So we left the cosy hospitality offered by Violette and her parents to face a long string of hotels of very mixed quality; a moment which was particularly difficult for Elias, who spent the rest of the day asking confused questions, as he was scrambling for something to hold onto when his world was being thrown apart, yet again.
So we were on the road by 14:30, heading West towards Tema and then North to the Lake Volta, then Ho, and then 20 kms of ‘piste’ to reach the border. There, civil servants of unequal skills and various degrees of drunkenness processed our papers just in time for us to reach Kpalime as the night was falling. And for this we owe a lot to Elias ! Yes, in Africa everyone loves children and it seems even a corrupt official would not want to keep him waiting for hours. We truly hope to witness the same behaviours during the rest of the trip. In any case, Elias is the best ice-breaker we have found to talk to the locals. Bless him !
